Otosclerosis is a middle ear condition where stapes (smallest bone in the middle ear) gets fixed and become immobile. This results in hearing loss. To improve hearing, stapes has to be surgically removed and a teflon/titanium prosthesis
has to be implanted to simulate the function of stapes This surgical procedure is called stapedotomy or stapedectomy.
